At Universal Seniors Social Services Uganda (USSSU), our mission goes beyond words—it is about actions that bring change, dignity, and hope to the elderly in Manafwa. Each month, we embark on a journey to transform lives, heal wounds, and provide relief where it is needed most.
In March 2024, our work took us deeper into the lives of seniors struggling with poverty, illness, and neglect. From borehole repairs to home visits, outreach efforts, and Easter gift distributions, this was a month filled with resilience, gratitude, and small victories.
Water for Life: Progress on the Borehole Repair
Access to clean water is a daily challenge for seniors in Manafwa. The only protected spring is overwhelmed, and with broken boreholes, residents endure long queues or buy water at a high price.
During the USSSU launch, the area Member of Parliament pledged to repair the borehole near our premises. This month, we followed up, and a district water engineer has assessed the situation. We remain hopeful that action will be taken soon, ensuring seniors no longer struggle to fetch water.
While we wait, we recognize the need for rainwater harvesting systems—a sustainable alternative that we aim to implement in the future.
Opening Doors: Expanding USSSU’s Network
To strengthen our impact, we reached out to several organizations, seeking partnerships and support:
🤝 OJCare – A provider of wheelchairs for the elderly. Sadly, Manafwa is not included in their 2024 distribution, but we will try again in 2025.
🤝 District Community Development Office – We are working towards an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate collaboration and referrals.
🤝 Post Bank Uganda (Mbale Branch) – While they do not offer direct support, groups that save with them may receive financial benefits to improve livelihoods.
🤝 National Social Security Fund (NSSF) – The manager appreciated USSSU’s work and promised to advocate for elderly-focused programs. We will follow up in June 2024.
🤝 MTN & Airtel Uganda – We were encouraged to submit a proposal for potential support.
These conversations lay the foundation for future partnerships, ensuring seniors get the help they deserve.
Nekesa Kezia (82 years old): A Renewed Spirit

Nekesa lives in extreme poverty with her only daughter, who survives by working in gardens.
❌ She is sickly and lacks food.
❌ She had no support system beyond her daughter.
But in March 2024, her life took a turn:
✅ USSSU provided painkillers and food relief.
✅ She found spiritual healing, committing her life to Jesus on March 24, 2024.
✅ On March 30, she went to church for the first time in years, receiving love and care from the congregation.
Her transformation touched the church leadership, who are now eager to support seniors in need.
Standing with Uganda’s Forgotten Seniors
March 2024 reinforced a simple but profound truth: The elderly should not be forgotten.
We witnessed seniors regaining mobility, finding faith, and experiencing love—all because of the collective efforts of USSSU, our board members, and our supporters.
But our work is far from over.
💙 Seniors still lack food, shelter, and medical care.
💙 Many boreholes remain broken, leaving communities without water.
💙 Essential services, like wheelchairs and assistive devices, are still out of reach.
🔹 You can change this. 🔹
✅ Donate today – Help us provide food, healthcare, and support.
✅ Volunteer with us – Your time can change lives.
✅ Spread awareness – Share our mission and bring more people on board.
